Home Additions

Home additions are popular renovation project with older homes.  Many older homes are structurally sound, and good candidates for adding on additional space.  Often a small addition will make a big difference in making a home more liveable.

Some of the additions we have built over the years:

  • Second floor home addition/Second storey addition
  • Rear home addition
  • Side home addition
  • Front home addition
  • Split level home addition
  • Room above garage
  • In-law suite
  • Third floor addition/Third Storey Addition

Second Storey Additions

Adding a second storey addition to a house is one of the most popular home addition projects in Toronto.  And with good reason, as most of the “new” construction in the 1950s and 60s consisted of small bungalows.

While adding to the back is an option, homeowner often prefer to add a second floor to preserve backyard space.  A second floor also allows the main floor living areas to face the backyard, a feature desired by most homeowners.

Adding a second storey addition to a home usually includes extensive renovations to the home.  Main floor bedrooms are removed, while living rooms, dining room and kitchens are expanded.

This 2nd storey home addition more than doubled the size of the house.

Rear House Additions

Rear additions are popular with homeowner with bungalows who are looking to maintain a single floor living area, and those with two storey homes where the most logical option for additional space is to add to the back.

A small addition at the back of the home doubled the size of the kitchen and dining room.

Front Home Additions

Older homes all suffer from the same problem – a front entry that is too small to accommodate jackets, shoes, backpacks and the occasional hockey bag.  We have solved this problem by adding space at the front of the home.

A front addition adds a much needed foyer to this home in Bloor West Village.

Third Floor Additions

When your home already has a second floor, and your property is too small to add to the front, back or side, a third storey home addition could be an option.

In Law Suite Additions

In-Law suites additions are growing in popularity, as many families have multiple generations living under one roof.  Most towns and cities permit the creation of a second dwelling unit within an existing home, including adding and addition to the existing home to create a dwelling unit.  We have built these units in the city of Toronto and rural areas such as Caledon.  These units have full services, including their own kitchen and laundry.
